X-Sector is an area of the park in Alton Towers. It is themed as if it were a sinister futuristic government facility. The area contains the innovative Oblivion ride, the world's first roller coaster with a vertical (87.5°) drop. And the current world record holder for the most inversions (14). The Smiler
The extra-wide roller coaster cars are held suspended over the edge for a maximum of three seconds before dropping downwards into a large hole amid mist and sirens through a pitch-black tunnel, and then re-emerging into a heavily banked turn leading back into the station. A game arcade next to Oblivion's gift shop which is closed and the 'Just Chicken' restaurant, selling fast food, can also be found here.
